Wild Eats
I express my creativity in the kitchen. My inspiration comes from being outside--in the forest, on the farm, by the ocean, or going to the farmers’ market. My blog, Wild Eats, is where I share my adventures and recipes.
A little on me
I love to share stories and food, and when the two meet I get really excited.
I work as a freelance editor and writer editing for various publishers and small businesses and as a writer working with non-profits, my local newspaper, and on my own writing projects.
In my kitchen
I am an avid home cook with an increasing insatiability for cookbooks and all reading about food. This all channels into my kitchen where I love to learn and try new things. My experience as a home cook and my work as a freelance editor both began with the same cookbook: Simply in Season. The first recipes I created beyond the family favourites came from that cookbook and then, over a decade later, I worked on this cookbook as a project management editor for the revised and updated edition.
On the farm and in the garden
I grew up in the fruit belt of Niagara in Ontario and now as an adult I’ve been transplanted to another fruit belt--the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by good local food for most of my life, and to have the opportunity to know my farmers--some of them are my relatives and some of them are my friends. I am excited to be starting my own garden now that we have our own house and yard. I’ve started with some planters on my side deck and I’ve got my plant list ready for my garden beds this coming spring!
On the road
I also draw my inspiration from our travels--from the food and from the landscape. Being away from home helps me to see it in a new way when we return. Sometimes I am sad to have missed the end of peach season, or the first of my strawberries at home, but I am always inspired by local produce in the countries we visit, especially in climates that are different from our own.
Thank you so much for stopping by. I look forward to sharing my adventures and the experience of creating good food with you. I hope what inspires me can inspire you to get into the kitchen too and share in the adventure.
